SCHUNK is a German manufacturer of gripping systems, clamping technology and automation components, headquartered in Lauffen am Neckar. It began in 1945 as a small mechanical workshop and grew with the rise of industrial robotics — it introduced its first standardised robot gripper in the early 1980s — into what it describes as the world’s leading supplier of robot grippers and a market leader in toolholding and workholding. The portfolio covers three pillars: gripping technology for robots and handling systems, from standard two- and three-finger grippers to mechatronic and collaborative grippers and complete gripping systems; toolholding and stationary workholding, including lathe chucks, tool holders and clamping stations; and automation technology such as linear modules, rotary units and robot accessories, with more than 13,000 standard components in the catalogue.

The company remains family-owned and is managed by the third generation of the founding family. Its own sustainability reporting counts 3,700 employees across ten plants and 34 directly owned subsidiaries, with distribution partners in more than 50 countries, serving the automotive, electronics, life-science, aerospace and logistics industries among others. For partners, SCHUNK is core end-of-arm infrastructure: a large share of the world’s robot cells pick, hold and clamp parts with its components. (Note: SCHUNK SE & Co.
