About Saga Robotics

Saga Robotics is a Norwegian agricultural-robotics company, founded in 2016 with roots at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), whose Thorvald robots treat crops with ultraviolet light instead of chemicals. Thorvald drives autonomously through strawberry fields and vineyards at night, dosing plants with UV-C light that suppresses powdery mildew, a fungal disease that otherwise drives heavy fungicide use. While it treats, the robot’s cameras count flowers and fruit and record ripeness data, giving growers yield forecasts without extra equipment or labour. The company reports that Thorvald now treats around 30% of the UK’s tabletop strawberries and some 2,500 acres of US grapevine (company-stated), with pesticide reductions of 70–100% in treated crops.

Saga operates from its Oslo headquarters with offices in the UK (Lincolnshire and Kent) and the US (Paso Robles, California), and Thorvald was named to TIME’s Best Inventions of 2026 list. The platform is delivered as a service to growers, positioning Saga as a farming-operations partner rather than just an equipment vendor. For partners and distributors, Saga offers the most commercially proven UV-C treatment platform in soft fruit and wine grapes, two high-value crops under pressure to cut chemical inputs.
