About KUKA

KUKA is a German automation group headquartered in Augsburg, founded in 1898 and known above all for its orange industrial robots. It built an early landmark in 1973 with the FAMULUS, the first electrically driven six-axis industrial robot, and it later introduced one of the first sensitive collaborative robots designed to work directly alongside people. Today KUKA’s portfolio spans articulated robots from compact models to heavy-duty units with payloads up to roughly 1,300 kg, SCARA and delta robots, collaborative robots such as the LBR iisy, and autonomous mobile robots for intralogistics. Around the hardware it sells controllers, programming and simulation software, cloud-based digital services and complete, fully networked production systems built by its KUKA Systems engineering division.

The wider group also includes Swisslog, which automates warehouses and logistics, and Swisslog Healthcare, which automates hospital and pharmacy logistics. KUKA reports annual sales of about EUR 3.9 billion, around 14,500 employees, operations in more than 50 countries, and more than 500,000 of its robots in use worldwide. Its customers cluster in automotive and battery production, electronics, metal and plastics processing, consumer goods, e-commerce and healthcare. Since the completion of Midea Group’s takeover, KUKA has operated as an independent company within the Chinese Midea Group while keeping its Augsburg headquarters and engineering base.
