The Quick Answer

The Philippines runs on Philippine Standard Time (PHT), which is UTC+8 all year. The Philippines does not observe daylight saving time, so its clock never moves. The gap with the United States still changes twice a year, because the US side moves.

While the US is on daylight time (March to November), Manila is 12 hours ahead of New York and 15 hours ahead of Los Angeles. On US standard time (November to March) the gap is one hour bigger: 13 hours and 16 hours.

As of October 12, 2026, the hours when people on both sides are realistically awake (8 AM to 10 PM local time) are:

  • From the East Coast: 8 AM – 10 AM Eastern = 8 PM – 10 PM in Manila
  • From the East Coast: 8 PM – 10 PM Eastern = 8 AM – 10 AM in Manila the next day
  • From the West Coast: 5 PM – 10 PM Pacific = 8 AM – 1 PM in Manila the next day

US Time Zone Cheat Sheet

The Philippines keeps a single time zone across all of its islands, so Manila, Cebu, and Davao are always on the same clock. Reading tip: “12 hours ahead” means that when it is 9 AM where you are, it is 9 PM in Manila the same day.

While the US is on daylight time (March 8 to November 1, 2026, and again from March 14, 2027):

  • Eastern (EDT, UTC-4): Manila is 12 hours ahead. 9 AM New York = 9 PM Manila
  • Central (CDT, UTC-5): Manila is 13 hours ahead. 9 AM Chicago = 10 PM Manila
  • Mountain (MDT, UTC-6): Manila is 14 hours ahead. 9 AM Denver = 11 PM Manila
  • Pacific (PDT, UTC-7): Manila is 15 hours ahead. 9 AM Los Angeles = midnight Manila the next day

While the US is on standard time (November 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027):

  • Eastern (EST, UTC-5): Manila is 13 hours ahead. 9 AM New York = 10 PM Manila
  • Central (CST, UTC-6): Manila is 14 hours ahead. 9 AM Chicago = 11 PM Manila
  • Mountain (MST, UTC-7): Manila is 15 hours ahead. 9 AM Denver = midnight Manila the next day
  • Pacific (PST, UTC-8): Manila is 16 hours ahead. 9 AM Los Angeles = 1 AM Manila the next day

Most of Arizona and all of Hawaii do not change their clocks, so their gap with the Philippines follows its own pattern. The planner handles both.

When the Gap Changes: Exact Dates

Only the US changes. If you have a standing weekly call, the Philippines time of that call shifts by an hour on these dates unless you move it:

  • November 1, 2026: the US ends daylight time. Manila goes from 12 hours to 13 hours ahead of New York.
  • March 14, 2027: the US starts daylight time. Manila goes from 13 hours to 12 hours ahead of New York.
  • November 7, 2027: the US ends daylight time. Manila goes from 12 hours to 13 hours ahead of New York.

Family Calls vs. Work Calls

Work calls: there is no overlap of normal office hours. When it is 9 AM to 5 PM anywhere in the continental US, it is evening or night in the Philippines. One side always has to stretch. The fairest arrangement is to alternate: one week the US side calls in its evening, the next week the Philippines side calls in its evening.

The most workable slot for a US evening call that lands in Philippines office hours is 8 PM – 10 PM Eastern = 8 AM – 10 AM in Manila the next day.

Family calls: aim for their evening. People are home and relaxed between about 6 and 10 PM. That evening window in Manila corresponds to 6 AM – 10 AM Eastern = 6 PM – 10 PM in Manila; from the West Coast, 6 AM – 7 AM Pacific = 9 PM – 10 PM in Manila. The typical lunch break there is noon to 1 PM, which is a poor time to call.

The other option is to catch them in the morning before their day starts: 7 PM – 10 PM Eastern = 7 AM – 10 AM in Manila the next day and 4 PM – 7 PM Pacific = 7 AM – 10 AM in Manila the next day.

What to Know Before You Call the Philippines

  • Ask about their shift first. A large number of Filipinos work in call centers and outsourcing firms on schedules matched to US business hours, which means working through the Philippine night and sleeping during the day. Never assume a daytime call is convenient: ask what their shift is.
  • Sundays are for family and church. Sunday morning is commonly taken up by Mass and a family lunch. Sunday evening Manila time, which is Sunday morning in the US, is usually a relaxed and reliable slot.
  • The Christmas season is long. Celebrations build from September and peak between December 16 and January 1. Holy Week, especially Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, is the other period when offices close and families travel to their home provinces.
  • Calls usually happen on Messenger. Facebook Messenger is the most common way to call family in the Philippines, followed by Viber and WhatsApp. Mobile data can be patchy outside the big cities, so agree on a backup time.

Turn the Time Into an Invitation

Working out the hour is half the job; the other half is making sure the person on the other end reads the same time you meant. In the time zone planner, pick your city and Manila, choose a date and time under “Plan a call”, and copy the link. When they open it, the page shows the call in their local time and offers a calendar file. The calculation uses the clock rules for the exact date you picked, so it stays right across the daylight saving changeovers.

These figures were calculated on October 12, 2026 from the IANA time zone database (Asia/Manila and the four main US zones). Governments occasionally change their clock rules, so for a date far in the future, check again closer to the time.
