Yummy Future — Robotic Cafés, Built End to End
Yummy Future builds robotic cafés end to end: the robot, the software, and the playbook. Its Future Max drink bar — one robot arm pouring coffee, matcha and milk tea — is live across three stores in Palo Alto and Champaign, and has poured 240,000+ cups.
The company started in September 2018 in a University of Illinois robotics lab, with a simple division of labour: the robot makes the drinks, people run the shop. Seven years on, the arm pulls espresso, whisks matcha and pours fruit tea behind Yummy Future's own bars — and the same bar is offered to venue owners who want one in their own space, from office lounges to airport concourses.

One Arm Pours the Drinks. People Run the Shop.
Yummy Future describes its work in one sentence: "We build robotic cafés end to end: the robot, the software, and the playbook." The flagship is Future Max, a robot drink bar built around a single arm. Guests order at a screen; the arm pulls the espresso, whisks the matcha, foams the milk and pours — coffee, matcha, milk tea and fruit tea from one machine. The bar is assembled from modular blocks on a 3-metre rail, so the same system can be configured compact, standard or long, and modules can be swapped as a menu changes. The first add-on is a foaming module.
The company proved the format in its own stores before offering it to anyone else. Three are live today: Yummy Future Bay on University Avenue in Palo Alto, California, and two on Green Street in Champaign, Illinois — the Matcha House in Campustown and the Original store. Together they have poured more than 240,000 cups, hold a brand-stated 4.8-star guest rating, and have cut the average order to about 135 seconds, down from 230 seconds at the start. Every unit reports back to the company's operations floor, which watches the fleet remotely.

The mission, in the company's own words, is "from repetition to creation — free hands, free minds." Robots, the team argues, do not replace creativity; they scale it, taking the repetitive work of drink-making so people can run the shop, host the guests and invent the next drink. The idea began in the Advanced Digital Projects Lab at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in September 2018, and the company went through Y Combinator's Summer 2019 batch the following year.
Free Hands, Free Minds
The three ideas behind Yummy Future — in the brand's own framing.
Repetition Is the Robot's Job
Pulling the same shots and whisking the same matcha, hundreds of times a day, is repetition. Yummy Future's founding idea is that repetition belongs to the arm — measured, consistent, and happy to work the night shift.
Creativity Stays Human
"Robots don't replace creativity. They scale it." People run the shop, develop the drinks and look after the guests, while the robot scales the creative work across every cup and every location.
Proven Behind Its Own Bar First
Future Max pours in Yummy Future's own three stores, serving paying customers — 240,000+ cups and counting — before the same bar is offered to partner venues. The playbook partners get was written at its own counters.

What Future Max Does
Coffee, Matcha and Milk Tea — One Arm
Three drink families from a single robot arm: espresso coffee, whisked matcha and milk tea, plus fruit teas. Guests order at the screen; the arm makes the drink.
Built Like Lego Blocks
The bar fills a 3-metre rail with interchangeable blocks. Swap the machines in the blocks and the same bar fits a compact pantry run or a full storefront — layouts run Compact, Standard and Long.
Foaming Module Add-On
Add-on modules extend the bar, starting with the foaming module — the menu can grow without replacing the whole system.
Fits Almost Any Venue
The company places bars in office lounges and pantries, airports, hospitals, arenas, gyms and fitness clubs, convenience stores, train stations, convention centres and private events.
Watched Remotely
Every unit reports to Yummy Future's operations floor, so a fleet of bars across different venues is monitored centrally — storage, status and service needs included.
Fast-Casual Speed
The stores average about 135 seconds per order, down from 230 seconds when they began — the number the company publishes for its own bars, drinks lined up at pickup.
Four Steps to a Robot Bar in Your Space
1. Tell them about your space
Building owners, cafés, gyms and hotels describe the space on the partnership page — a real person replies.
2. Get a quote for your space
Yummy Future writes back with a quote for a Future Max configured for the venue.
3. Build the bar block by block
The 3-metre rail is filled with the blocks your menu needs, and machines can be swapped later as the menu changes.
4. Guests order, the arm pours
Guests order at the screen; the arm makes coffee, matcha and milk tea, and the fleet is watched remotely by the ops floor.
